Jan, the flor is yours…

A couple of weeks ago I had the enormous pleasure of visiting a Bodega very close to my heart. Back in 2013 I opened a bar in Macclesfield (where I live) focusing on the best Spanish produce I could get hold of and Fernando de Castilla was very much part of that!

I took huge pride in educating people (sometimes against their will) about Sherry. I would chat for hours about the styles, the different towns and supping them with various things like almonds or lomo, complementing each other and also showing them off individually at their best.

So it was an absolute honour to meet the legendary Jan Pettersen and learn all about the history of the Bodega and his personal journey, but most of all to taste the wines again!

Also, part of the reason for visiting was to make a video with my friend Robert Hunter. Well ok, he makes the video and I offer moral support and carry the odd thing. My creative direction holds little weight, but I make an excellent eating and drinking companion…I rarely complain!

Visiting the region and making the video at Fernando de Castilla has reignited my love with Sherry! Not to mention their brandy too…wow! Salud!
